The Orchestra Hall

Only a week left and the blasted weather is still soooo cold in China..

Some months ago I went to help our company fulfill their corporate responsibility in the form or organizing a treasure hunt for deaf and mute kids. In conjunction with Esplanade, they host an indoor treasure hunt where you get to learn more about the durian building of arts. While accompanying the kids, I also get first hand tour of the theatres FOC. Hoh hoh hoh!

Anyway the most impressive thing I can remember is the Concert Hall. Devoid of all manner of amplifier (hence the name concert hall), the sound of the performance reaches the audience directly from the performers. So if they go out of tune, your ears will bleed. But that is unlikely to happen lar... to perform here, you gotta be good mar. Unless your grandfather own this Concert Hall and pay people to come and hear you play lor. Anyway sidetrack lio. Back to Concert Hall

Taken from stage

As you can see, the hall is really big! And there are fake floors too. Fake floor can open up and inside can put an entire orchestra team inside. Your need to put the orchestra underground when you have musicals, dramas, ballet. Remember no amplifier? So it had to be real life music.

The donut

The donut above replaces the amplifier. It is made of wood (duh..) and has about 7 separate panels that can be lowered individually. It is not a chandelier, the use of this donut is to reflect sound from the orchestra to audience and back to the orchestra player (so that they know what they are playing). You can lower the donut until ground (for cleaning).
.
I was quite impressed with the Concert Hall, I will surely come here for a performance.
